In the field of aesthetic medicine, hyaluronic acid is often used for wrinkle treatment and lip augmentation. Due to its unique properties, it can bind moisture and increase the volume of the treated areas. It fills in wrinkles and lines and gives the skin a smoother and more youthful appearance.
The effect of hyaluronic acid treatment is immediately visible and usually lasts for several months. As hyaluronic acid is a natural component of the body, it is broken down by the body over time and therefore needs to be replenished regularly to maintain the desired results.
Treatment with hyaluronic acid is generally well tolerated as it is a substance that is already present in our body. Nevertheless, possible risks and side effects should be discussed with an experienced doctor before treatment.
The treatment of tear troughs or dark circles under the eyes with hyaluronic acid usually takes place in several steps.
- First, the affected area is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. (We only use hyaluronic acid products that already contain an anesthetic to increase comfort during the treatment. Therefore, the use of an anesthetic cream is not necessary).
- The exact position where the hyaluronic acid is to be injected is marked. The hyaluronic acid is then injected into the tear trough or dark circles using a fine needle. Care is taken to ensure that the preparation is evenly distributed and a natural result is achieved.
- Slight swelling, redness or bruising may occur after the injection, but these usually subside on their own after a short time. To optimize the result, it may be necessary to repeat the treatment after a few weeks.
Treatment with hyaluronic acid is comparatively uncomplicated and usually only takes a few minutes. The effect lasts for different lengths of time depending on individual factors such as metabolism and lifestyle, but usually lasts for several months to a year.
It is important to note that each case is individual and the exact course of treatment depends on various factors. A thorough consultation is therefore essential to determine the best treatment plan for you.
The shelf life of hyaluronic acid can vary from person to person. In general, however, the effect of the dark circles treatment lasts for around 6 to 18 months. After this time, the hyaluronic acid is gradually broken down by the body and the dark circles return to their original state.
It is important to note that the shelf life of hyaluronic acid depends on various factors, such as the individual's metabolism, the amount of hyaluronic acid used, the injection technique and the patient's lifestyle. Smoking, excessive sun exposure and certain medications can accelerate the breakdown of hyaluronic acid and therefore shorten its shelf life.

Hyaluronic acid injections can be associated with some discomfort, but most people find the treatment well tolerated. A topical anaesthetic cream can be used before the injection to minimize possible pain. We only use hyaluronic acid products that already contain an anesthetic to increase comfort during the treatment.
There may be a slight feeling of pressure or stinging during the injection, but most patients report that this is well tolerated. Some also experience a slight burning or tingling sensation, but this quickly subsides.
After the treatment, the respective areas of the face may be slightly swollen and sensitive for a few hours or days. This is usually temporary and will subside on its own. It is recommended to apply cooling compresses or ice packs to the treated areas to reduce swelling and possible discomfort.
Rules of conduct exist on numerous websites, which have historically arisen since the days of discovery of hyaluronic acid. Most of them have no scientific basis.

- Do not smoke for at least 4 hours after treatment
- Make-up only from the following day
- No intensive competitive sport, sun, sauna or solarium for at least 24 hours

When treating dark circles under the eyes with hyaluronic acid, various combination treatments are possible to achieve optimal results. Some possible combinations are
- Dark circles and tear trough: Dark circles often occur in conjunction with a pronounced tear trough. - Dark circles and volume enhancement: For deeper dark circles, a combination of hyaluronic acid to treat the dark circles and a volume build-up in the cheek or mid-face area can be useful. This improves the overall appearance of the face and the dark circles appear less prominent.
- Dark circles and Botox treatment: In some cases, fine lines or crow's feet may also be present around the eyes. A combination of hyaluronic acid to treat dark circles and a Botox treatment to smooth out wrinkles can be an effective solution here.
